Facilities that Require Disaster Preparedness
September 15, 2009It’s obvious that any public areas should take safety precautions to protect the large groups of people that frequently. Whether it is from crime, natural disaster or other dangerous incidents, public areas have a responsibility to protect their inhabitants and guests. While airports, malls, movie theatres and sporting events all have large groups of people who congregate, some areas have even greater responsibilities when it comes to disaster preparedness.
Medical buildings, schools and shelters all have an increased level of responsibilities because of their importance and vulnerability. Ever since Hurricane Katrina, emergency services have really stepped up their plans for bringing together unified communication that cannot be broken by natural disasters. Satellite phones are key to this communication, as they don’t require infrastructure that is often destroyed during hurricanes, flooding or earthquakes.
Schools require satellite phones for multiple reasons including natural disasters and other dangers. Schools often serve as shelters during natural disasters and are prone to emergency situations that are difficult to predict like school shootings and other random incidents. Having uninterrupted communication can save precious lives.
