Unifying Agencies with Communications

September 15, 2009

The “post 911 world” has a larger attentiveness to emergency preparedness and reinforcement of emergency response agencies. One of the biggest problems regarding emergency response agencies is the lack of cooperation. After 9-11, intelligence agencies operating abroad didn’t communicate well with domestic agencies which led to the “unexpected” attack on New York City, Washington DC and Pennsylvania. Cohesion has become incredibly important which was the basis of forming the Office of Homeland Security. While cooperation requires conventional practices such as regular meetings and sharing of intelligence, it also requires instant communication that can only be produced by modern technology.

During an emergency, whether it be an attack or natural disaster tends to create chaos and even shut down communication. Cell phone towers and 911 emergency response get bombarded with calls rendering them almost useless  In order for vital response teams to communicate, they need something more advanced than a cell phone, this is what makes satellite phones so unique. They rely on satellite communication which means they can be used almost anywhere and can easily survive failed infrastructures. Agencies that need to respond fast in the field, require satellite phones to protect us all from the daunting challenges of security in the modern world.

Facilities that Require Disaster Preparedness

September 15, 2009

It’s obvious that any public areas should take safety precautions to protect the large groups of people that frequently. Whether it is from crime, natural disaster or other dangerous incidents, public areas have a responsibility to protect their inhabitants and guests. While airports, malls, movie theatres and sporting events all have large groups of people who congregate, some areas have even greater responsibilities when it comes to disaster preparedness.

Medical buildings, schools and shelters all have an increased level of responsibilities because of their importance and vulnerability.  Ever since Hurricane Katrina, emergency services have really stepped up their plans for bringing together unified communication that cannot be broken by natural disasters. Satellite phones are key to this communication, as they don’t require infrastructure that is often destroyed during hurricanes, flooding or earthquakes.

Schools require satellite phones for multiple reasons including natural disasters and other dangers. Schools often serve as shelters during natural disasters and are prone to emergency situations that are difficult to predict like school shootings and other random incidents. Having uninterrupted communication can save precious lives.
